ENGL 301 Old English Language and Literature (4)
This course is an introduction to Old English, the language spoken in (what would become) England between the 5th – 11th centuries. Students will learn pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar as they read a variety of works written in Old English, both prose (including selections from The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle) and verse (including "Cædmon's Hymn," "The Dream of the Rood," "The Wanderer," "The Battle of Maldon," and selections from Beowulf). Prerequisite: One course in English with attribute GFWI.
