Religious practices shape society, including our understanding of the environment. Simultaneously, the environment shapes our religious sensibilities. This course investigates the close relationship between religion and place as well as communities and the environment. Specifically, students explore how religions change to address new problems, examine the relationship between society’s treatment of the environment and women and ecofeminist responses, and investigate the interplay of new ethical systems with ancient texts. Prerequisite: Open only to students admitted to the Lake Tahoe Semester program..
