Latinx Theatre covers the history and development of theatre from a Hispanic point of view and provides an in-depth study of Latinx culture in the performing arts. Students will study Theatre history starting with the Spanish Golden Age (1580) through modern and contemporary theatre produced in and out of the United States. Theatrical themes are further explored through the lenses of identity, immigration, social justice, cultural resilience, and how these challenges are overcome. Integrating historical analysis with critical thinking, this course demonstrates the cardinal influence that various Latinx cultures have had on shaping the world of theatre and the performing arts.
