Latin American and Latinx Studies
This minor introduces students to the region and encourages them to consider the intersections between race, ethnicity, religion, politics, ecology, and sexuality, among other key topics as they expand their knowledge of the Americas in its past and present. The minor asks students to critically consider the multiple and complex events, experiences, and perspectives that inform Latin America in its past and present, including when to recognize and challenge common narratives and stereotypes that have emerged over time about the region and its peoples. Students consider visual arts, musical expression, literary production, gender and sexuality, political phenomena, environmental challenges and management, and historical and social analysis to work toward understanding Latin American, Caribbean, and Latinx histories and experiences.
