Master of Divinity Certificate in Environmental Ministry
This certificate is designed for those students who desire to incorporate environmental awareness into their M.Div curriculum across a wide range of disciplines. The Episcopal Church has an ongoing commitment to creation care as one of its chief priorities, and this certificate aims to form church leaders for environmental ministry and strengthen the church’s urgent environmental witness, taking advantage of the unique natural setting of the Domain on the Cumberland Plateau.
The certificate will appear as a notification on the student’s transcript. M.Div students must request the office of the registrar to be registered for the certificate.
Learning Objectives
In addition to those for the MDiv curriculum:
- Students will demonstrate understanding of environmental issues and their relevance for ministry (coursework in concentration)
- Students will demonstrate the capacity to engage practically with an environmental topic or issue (community engagement).

Master of Divinity Certificate in Latino/Hispanic Ministry
This certificate is designed for those students who desire to incorporate courses in Spanish and Latino/Hispanic ministry into their M.Div curriculum across a wide range of disciplines. The School of Theology has a long-standing commitment to equipping students for Latino/Hispanic ministry. The seminary has been offering Spanish courses continuously since the fall of 1991, and it also offers several electives designed to provide cultural competency, pastoral skills, and theological foundations for ministry within Latino communities. The certificate aims to prepare seminarians more effectively for Latino/Hispanic ministry.
The certificate will appear as a notification on the student’s transcript. M.Div students must request the office of the registrar to be registered for the certificate.

- Students will demonstrate awareness of the historical, cultural, and socio-demographic background of the Latino population in the United States
- Students will demonstrate familiarity with the sources, methods, and themes of Latino theology
- Students will demonstrate understanding of the development, significance, and practice of liturgical celebrations and popular devotions in Latino contexts
- Students will demonstrate understanding of different models of Latino/Hispanic ministry that address diverse pastoral and liturgical needsStudents will demonstrate proficiency in engaging in conversation and leading worship in Spanish

Master of Divinity Certificate in Biblical Languages
This certificate is designed for those students who desire to incorporate language learning and coursework in Greek and Hebrew into their M.Div curriculum. While the School of Theology does not require Greek and Hebrew, our faculty have a long-standing commitment to the teaching and learning of biblical languages. This M.Div certificate aims to encourage students to pursue language learning and study as an important part of their coursework and their preparation for teaching and preaching scripture.
The certificate will appear as a notification on the student’s transcript. M.Div students must request the office of the registrar to be registered for the certificate.
Learning Objectives:
- Students will demonstrate competency in elements of biblical Greek or Hebrew (or both).
- Students will incorporate language learning more deeply into their biblical studies classes.
- Students will have a deeper understanding of the linguistic and socio-cultural contexts of scripture.
